11/05/2013 10:21 AM ET

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap started the day with visits to Old Town, Lincoln and Veazie, and he's planning visits to several other communities before wrapping up in Bangor.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Maine's top election official is visiting polling places across the state as voters cast their ballots on Election Day.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap started the day with visits to Old Town, Lincoln and Veazie. He's also stopping in Ellsworth, Searsport, Lewiston, Freeport and Plymouth before wrapping up in Bangor.

That state ballot has five bond proposals asking voters if they support funding initiatives for transportation projects, the Maine National Guard, the University of Maine System, community colleges and Maine Maritime Academy.

A number of towns and cities also have local races and referendum questions to be voted on.

Dunlap is expecting turnout to be on the low side with no candidates on the statewide ballot.
