Perhaps better known by contemporary audiences for his annual celebration of Winter Solstice from St. John the Divine in New York, saxophonist Paul Winter made a powerful debut as leading his straightahead sextet in a series of Columbia recordings which appeared in the early 60s. They've just been reissued, including parts of a 1962 White House concert.
