Bar Harbor this week hosted 11 leaders from across the northeast attending the 32nd Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers. Jennifer Rooks was there and she reports on the issues including transportation, infrastructure, energy needs and the environment affecting the region surrounding Maine. The consensus seems to be that the biggest challenge facing the region is controlling rising energy costs. Can both the U.S. and Canada benefit by harnessing new technologies and utilizing local sources of nuclear power, hydro-power, oil and natural gas? How do the leaders balance the need for less expensive energy with concerns about the environment?
