The BBC’s Changing World correspondent Mike Wooldridge explores factors that keep a billion people trapped in poverty. In this program he investigates the status of women in Nicaragua and looks at an unorthodox scheme for distributing public assistance in a Namibian village.

Thirty years after the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua, the promise of a better life for many women there remains unfulfilled. Mike Wooldridge examines the situation of one family, whose lives are blighted by domestic violence and poverty.
