Maine Arts! offers performances and interviews that showcase Maine's diverse and active cultural life
The series, created and hosted by Suzanne Nance, introduces audiences to outstanding performing artists of varied genres and venues throughout the region. The interviews throughout the program provide insight into the music and performers and help portray the venue, its mission and its surroundings. Broadcasting live captures the atmosphere and energy of the venue and audience and provides a front row seat for listeners across Maine and beyond.

MPBN's Maine Arts! Presents: Pavel Haas Quartet
September 9, at 3:00 pm

The dynamic Pavel Haas Quartet takes its name from the Czech composer Pavel Haas (1899-1944) who was imprisoned at Theresienstadt in 1941 and tragically died at Auschwitz three years later. His legacy includes three wonderful string quartets. MPBN recorded the Pavel Haas Quartet on April 15, 2012 at the Collins Center for the Arts in Orono, Maine. “The world’s most exciting string quartet? Well, they suit the tagline better than most. Their tone is large, quasi-orchestral. They take risks. Above all, they play with passion.” The Times, January 2010.

On June 29, 2012 Sharon Isbin came to Maine to perform as part of the inaugural Portland Performing Arts Festival. Isbin presented a diverse program at Williston-Immanuel United Church featuring Latin romances for guitar and the Joan Baez Suite by John Duarte.
