Democratic candidate for governor John Richardson is the former Commissioner for the Department of Economic and Community Development. Richardson, a resident of Brunswick, also served as the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives in 2005 and 2006. He joins two fellow former Democratic Speakers of the Maine House of Representatives in the race for the party's gubernatorial nomination (the others are Libby Mitchell and Steve Rowe). The other Democratic candidates seeking the nomination in June are Rosa Scarcelli and Patrick McGowan.
