April 3, 2009 - The Dark Skies Movement |
 Scientists are learning more and more about the effects of light pollution on people and wildlife. Now a growing movement aims to help preserve night darkness through legislation. We'll look at how the Dark Skies movement might affect Maine. Martha Sheils of the International Dark-Sky Association and Robert Burgess, one of Maine’s NASA ambassadors, discuss this growing concern. Also, it's been 100 years since explorer Robert E. Peary's historic trip to the North Pole. His alma mater, Bowdoin College, celebrates with a new exhibit at the Peary-Macmillan Artic Museum. Genevieve LeMoine, curator of the exhibit gives us a tour. |

 This week on Maine Watch, it's a daunting prospect for many students and their parents, especially now - how to pay for college. Maine college graduates have one of the highest student debt loads in the nation, and there are many grads with horror stories about trying to pay back their loans. We'll look at the reasons and ask for advice. Also, Maine's history through the lens of the postcard photo.

 In many parts of the state health care workers are in short supply. Hospitals and other facilities can't attract the doctors, nurses and technicians they need, and experts worry that the problem is just going to get worse. We'll look at the root of this issue and what's being done to fix it. |
