Place of Execution (part 2 of 2)
Sunday, November 8 at 9:00 pm

Masterpiece Contemporary returns to the 1963 disappearance of a 13-year-old girl who vanished without a trace. In the conclusion, Catherine suspects that Bennett fabricated evidence.

It's 1963, and young Alison Carter leaves her home in the small English village of Scardale and literally vanishes into the mist. The mystery unnerves a nation, and captivates George Bennett (Lee Ingleby, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), the officer investigating his first missing person case. Flash forward to contemporary London, where journalist Catherine Heathcote (Juliet Stevenson, Bend it Like Beckham) is putting the finishing touches on a documentary about the haunting Carter case.

Bennett, who had a long and lauded career as a result of his work on the case, suddenly pulls out of the film, adding fresh intrigue to a supposedly closed case. What could have so rattled the supposed hero? Also starring Greg Wise (Cranford) and based on the book by Val McDermid, Place of Execution deftly interweaves the stories of an obsessed detective and an ambitious journalist, building to a shocking climax that challenges the concepts of truth and justice.
