| This fine 19th century genre portrait is an oil on canvas by American painter George Henry Hall, painted in Seville, Spain in 1866, and titled 'Two Young Girls with Roses'. Their sweet faces emerge from the dark background, suffused by lateral light which also highlights the arm and bouquet of roses. The soft fabric of their dresses emphasizes their innocence. This sensitive painting explains the artist's strong reputation, as his works are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Art and the Brooklyn Museum. This work is in a beautiful sculptured antiqued gold wood frame measuring 16 by 20 inches. Due to the painting's age and condition, it has had some restoration work performed in the center right by a professional painting conservator. Wiscasset Bay Gallery has generously donated this historic oil painting. Learn more and place a bid.
