| This unusual oil of a bed sheet, circa 1950, demonstrates native art at its finest. The artist uses bold, contrasting colors and dramatic features to portray a Haitian field worker. The ominous sky in the background, along with her traditional clothing gives us a glimpse into her life and future. Large pumpkins in the field provide evidence of the continuous heavy lifting and backbreaking work of a field hand. A closer look at the weathered face shows the years of toil and struggle she has endured. The artist is only known as ‘Pastur’ from his signature, almost hidden, in the lower left corner of the painting on our subject’s shirt. This pensive work is matted in a rustic, carved, dark wood frame, 24 x 28 inches and has been generously donated by Ed Weissman Antiques of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Learn more and place a bid.
