Stephen Ruell

'Late Afternoon on Penobscot Bay'

Stephen Ruell - 'Late Afternoon on Penobscot Bay'

Donated by: Stephen Ruell

Location:   Caanan

Value:   $1200

Media: Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: 26" x 32"

Description:

The sea and sky share the same attractive wardrobe in this fine marine oil on canvas by Stephen Ruell of Canaan titled ‘Late Afternoon on Penobscot Bay.’ The horizon is bathed in pink in the fading light. The sea reflects that color, blending it with the wavelets of blue with flecks of white foam.  The sailboat at anchor awaits another voyage, always leery of the danger in the encroaching brown and grey boulders of the rocky shore. This serene work is in a gold filler and linen liner in a sculpted and etched gold wood frame measuring 26 by 32 inches. Works by Ruell have garnered awards at museum juried shows and are included within the 2008-2009 juried exhibition of The American Society of Marine Artists which will travel to five museums. His unique perspective on the Maine Coast is enhanced by sailing trips in Penobscot Bay and beyond.
