Wonderful light suffuses this fine marine oil on board titled ‘Winter Ice’ by Kathleen Billis of Boothbay Harbor.  The sky is illuminated by a powerful creamy light which reflects from and accents the masts of the sailboats and the patches of ice sheathing the cold blue harbor waters. A prominent church spire stabs the sky from the hillside, while the green pier jutting into the water is guarded by the harborside pavilion.  This fine painting is in a gold-washed plein air frame measuring 23 by 27 inches. Artist Billis, represented by Billis Fine Art of Boothbay Harbor, enjoys the European Plein Air tradition of creating her works on site outdoors.
