The remarkable skill of waterfowl carver Ed Beach of Readfield created this wonderful carved duck and ducklings. The lifelike creatures were crafted by hand, using woodcarving tools and burning pen which have graced the feathers in detail reminiscent of a fine etching. The bond between the ducks is as obvious as the artist's love for his natural subjects. As mother nuzzles one, the more adventurous sibling practices its diving. This sculpture is on a black walnut base of 8 by 14 inches, and stands 5 inches high. The artist has signed and dated his work on the bottom of the base. The works of Ed Beach were reviewed by Maine Times, which described his sculptures as 'exquisite.' Collectors from as far away as Japan prize his works, which have been awarded numerous ribbons at wood carving exhibitions.
