Sculptor Susan E. Bennett of Auburn began her journey to her art through the medium of pipe welding. As she reflected on her experiences, so her work in stainless steel reflects the light, refracting it and bringing it to life. This organic sculpture in stainless steel is titled ‘Feeling Fancy’, and suggests an undersea creature stretching its head towards the sun above the water, while preening its curving, graceful limbs for its admirers. It is 20 inches high, 24 inches wide and 14 inches deep. Her art has been shown at the 2008 National Juried Exhibition at the Ceres Gallery in New York City, the 2006 juried international small works exhibit in Santa Fe, the winter show of the MaineCenter for Contemporary Art, and the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College Biennial. The artist was awarded the prestigious Carina Residency on MonheganIsland in 2003.
