'Rowing out the Storm' Watercolor

Donated by: Jill Hoy
Location: Stonington
Value: $730
Media: Watercolor
Dimensions: 18 x 19
Description:
Light and color compete for attention in this energetic watercolor painting, courtesy of the HOY Gallery in Stonington. The sun illuminates the horizon in vibrant tones of yellow and gold, which in turn flash off the water and reflect from the body of the bare-chested rower and his craft. On the other side, the sky is full of purple and pink storm clouds, reflecting from the water and coloring the peapod. The water in the foreground is sapphire blue and emerald green. The frame, created by Framemakers of Waterville, is bleached natural wood and measures 18 by 19 inches. The painting is matted in deep blue and is under glass. Works by artist Hoy are in collections such as the Portland Museum of Art, Harvard Business School and the Boston Public Library. Her work is in More Paintings of Maine by Karl Little and was featured in an article in Down East Magazine in September, 2005.
