Description:

This fine pastel by Judith Leighton of Blue Hill is titled ‘Approach to the Forest’.  Three trees in uniforms of olive drab guard a golden road through snowy fields leading to a house and shed with roof of deep blue and red over colors of white, lavender and orange.  A hazy sun in a dark sky of deep purple is seen through dense trees in dark tones of olive and black.  The forest is deep and mysterious, in contrast to the radiant foreground structures.  This work is matted in white under glass in a white painted wood frame measuring 27 by 34 inches. Works by the artist have been in solo, group and juried shows throughout Maine, Massachusetts and beyond.  Her paintings may be seen at Leighton Gallery in Blue Hill.
