Alice McKay Barnett
"Gracie 2" Rock Landscape

Donated by: Alice McKay Barnett
Location: South Carthage
Value: $1,800
Description:
This impressive work, entitled “Gracie 2”, is a statement in support of the environment of Maine. Under a textured pink sky an all-seeing sun dog of pink Maine tourmaline lights the geography of Maine. The mountain range in the center is composed of green Maine tourmaline, feldspar, amethyst, and lepidiolite. The sand in the foreground and the stones at the lower right are from Pleasant Point Indian Reservation. At lower left are cut, dyed and polished stones from California. The three center circles are from the hills of Western Maine. The title derives from the shed skin of a California King that stretches across the base of the mountains. It carries Native American medicines for the environment including sage, cedar, tobacco, acorn, white birch and sweetgrass. This is 26 by 49 inches in a white painted wood frame. Artist Alice McKay Barnett of South Carthage has had her work invited into juried exhibits in the United States and abroad, including the Florence Biennale of 2003. Her work is in numerous private and public collections, including the permanent collection of the Governor of Maine.
