The Quoddy Tidal Project: Congress approved a bill to allocate ten million dollars for a massive hydroelectric plant to be built in Passamaquoddy Bay. Eastern Mainers rejoiced at the prospect of all the jobs the new plant would supply. Construction began; a village for Quoddy workers and two small dams were built before Congress cut the funding for Quoddy in half. The project was eventually abandoned.
