New Episode: Hands-On Education
Episode #1910
A hands-on education is a necessary precursor to the traditional Yankee work ethic. Under the watchful eye of those who have already mastered their craft, young men and women learn the skills they’ll need to succeed in their jobs and in life, as Lou discovers in this episode. At the University of New England in Biddeford, students can attend the only osteopathic medical school in New England, where they learn to treat the whole patient and not just the ailment. In Bangor, Husson College hosts the New England School of Communications, where students learn the finer points of radio and television production. The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport teaches traditional furniture making skills, and there’s also the New England School of Metalwork in Auburn, where high-tech welding and traditional blacksmithing are taught under the same roof.
