Home Heating Oil Crisis
Click on the "PLAY" icon to view the program
This week, Jennifer focuses on Maine's home heating oil crisis this winter. With oil prices shattering the $3.00/gallon barrier, tens of thousands of Maine families can't afford to heat their homes. Local community agencies say they've never seen so many people ask for help, and they've never seen those peoplebe so desperate. Federal fuel assistance often pays for only half a tank of oil, and many of the "working poor" don't even qualify for those funds. We'll meet some of those struggling to pay their bills and will look at some of the state and local efforts to help. Also, what does this mean for Maine's economy as a whole?
Jennifer's guests include Dale McCormick, head of the Maine Housing Authority and Richard Card Director of Operations for Community Concepts.
