MPBN Offers Audio from Rustic Overtones' December 29th Acoustic Concert at the Waterville Opera House

Rare Acoustic Performance Available Below in Your Choice of Audio Formats

MPBN was a proud sponsor of a rare acoustic performance by Maine's own Rustic Overtones along with nearly a dozen student musicians on December 29th, 2007 at the Waterville Opera House, a concert that MPBN streamed live on the Internet, digitally recorded, and is now offering here in its entirety as both a downloadable podcast and as streaming audio:

The concert was the first in a live music series called Live at the Opera House, which will also feature a concert by the legendary Joan Baez in March 2008. Opening for Rustic Overtones was 19-year-old Marie Moreshead, a solo singer-songwriter from Portland, and MPBN is happy to make the audio from her excellent performance available here as well:

Weeks before the Dec. 29 concert, Rustic Overtones, one of Maine’s most successful and popular rock bands, organized a series of rehearsal sessions with a carefully selected group of young local musicians, mostly of high school and junior high age, from Waterville and the surrounding area.  The instrumentation for this unique performance included two violins, two cellos, two violas, two trombones, two trumpets, and a French horn. The new arrangements were written especially for this performance by two of the band's horn players, Ryan Zoidis and Dave Noyes, and it was the first performance of its kind by the band.

“I think it’s great that Rustic Overtones are supporting music in public schools like this," said Alex Hallenbeck, a junior at Waterville High School and one of the viola players selected for the concert. "It really gives us kids a fun opportunity to step outstide the box muscially and to learn a completely different genre.”

A percentage of proceeds generated from the Live at the Opera House series will benefit future arts-related programming initiatives in Downtown Waterville.

Tickets for the upcoming Joan Baez concert are available by calling (207) 873-7000 or by visiting the Waterville Opera House box office at 93 Main Street during business hours (Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm).  For more information, please visit www.liveattheoperahouse.com.
