Angel Soutuyo
It was in college that Angel Soutuyo found that athletic
training combined two of his favorite things: sports and
medicine. Now in his sixth season with the Portland Pirates
and his ninth year as an athletic trainer, Angel has learned
that one of the most important things about being an athletic
trainer is maintaining composure in a fast-paced environment.
As
head trainer, Angel acts as liaison between players, doctors
and coaches. His main responsibility lies in getting players
back on the ice. Seeing a player
rehabilitated and playing again is the most rewarding part of his job, says Angel.
Although
he loves his job with the Pirates, Angel dreams of someday
working as head trainer in the National Hockey League. Ideally,
he would like to work for
a team that would bring him closer to his family in the Washington DC area.
Angel
attended the Catholic University of America in DC and was
most recently employed as athletic trainer and equipment
manager of the Quad City Mallards,
the Capitals' United Hockey League (UHL) affiliate based in Illinois. He
is a member of the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society. Angel was also
chosen as head trainer for the PlanetUSA All- Star team during the 2003 Dodge
All-Star Classic which was comprised of American and European hockey players. |
