Climate Change: More Info
Climate Change Institute
http://www.ume.maine.edu/iceage/
The institute leads expeditions
throughout the world to study climate change, including ice
core sampling as far away as Tibet, Antarctica, and New Zealand.
Some of the expeditions are still in progress; to see the scientists in action
and follow their daily journals, log-on to

The
institute leads many other major scientific investigations
to unlock the secrets of climate change. Over 40 faculty
and staff of the Institute provide
multidisciplinary strength in the fields of climatology, archaeology, glaciology,
glacial geology, geochemistry, ecology, remote sensing, history, marine geology,
and modeling, including:
- Understanding controls on the climate system
- Identifying
and exploring abrupt behavior in the climate system
- Detecting
and documenting human-source pollution in the atmosphere
- Exploring
changes over time in the behavior of major atmospheric
circulation systems such as El Niño/Southern Oscillation
and the North Atlantic Oscillation
- Studying climate-induced
changes in the distribution and abundance of
plants and animals
- Identifying changes in the extent of ice sheets and mountain
glaciers
and their effect on the environment
