MPBN Congressional and Senate Candidate Call-in Programs
MPBN has begun a series of eight First District Congressional candidate call-in programs on the radio stations of MPBN during the Maine primary season. MPBN will also produce similar call-in programs featuring the two candidates seeking the Democratic nomination to the U.S. Senate.
Next to visit MPBN's radio studio and take listeners' questions is Charlie Summers of Scarborough, one of two Republicans seeking his party's nomination to Maine's First District Congressional seat. Summers, a former top staffer for Senator Olympia Snowe, has served as the New England Regional Administrator to the U.S. Small Business Administration and will have, at the time of broadcast, just returned from Iraq, where he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. The program begins at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, May 21. (NOTE: MPBN does not post the toll-free phone number to call with listener questions on its web site in advance of the program. The number will be repeated frequently during each broadcast).

June 11, 2007: MPBN Special Call-in Program on Elder Abuse
Every year in Maine about 14,000 seniors are victims of elder abuse. But 84 percent of these cases are never reported. What is elder abuse? What can be done about it? On Tuesday, June 12th, MPBN's Susan Sharon hosted a discussion and radio call-in program on the subject. Her guests were Attorney General Steve Rowe and Ricker Hamilton of the Office of Elder Services.
Susan Sharon follows this subject closely and recently won awards for her coverage from the Maine Associated Press Broadcasters Association. To familiarize yourself more with the topic in advance of the program, you can hear a series of stories Susan has done on the subject for Maine Things Considered.
