Underwriting Sales Representative
 

We are seeking an energetic individual with a solid knowledge of and appreciation for public radio and television.

Responsible for developing revenue by soliciting business, non-profit, and foundation support in the form of underwriting on radio and television, as well as advertising in print and on the web. Must maintain relationships with current underwriters and actively engage in developing new business.

  • Solicits and maintains business, non-profit, and foundation underwriting on MPBN Radio and Television. This includes prospecting clients, writing proposals utilizing industry statistics and ratings, making sales calls and presentations, maintaining client records, and assisting with follow-up work (billing, promotion, scheduling credits, collections, etc.)
  • Assists in the development of underwriting and revenue enhancing promotion strategies, tools and activities, including but not limited to events, media presentations, newsletter and website.
  • Achieves or exceeds monthly, quarterly and annual revenue budget goals as determined by management based on portfolio history, geography and projected new business with input from the individual sales person.
  • Solicits and sells advertising space in Experience magazine and for MPBN.net.
  • May work as on-air talent and assist as needed in MPBN’s membership campaigns.
  • Completes required paperwork / system updates and regularly attends sales meetings and trainings. Opportunity to participate in a minimum of three professional development opportunities annually.
  • Other reasonably related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience required in fundraising, sales, marketing, or commensurate experience building external relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in soliciting and closing sales or donations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Maine and national funders, including any funders with a particular interest in public broadcasting helpful.
  • Experience using Excel, Word and media rating research tools required.
  • Familiarity with databases a plus.

NOTE: Travel and a valid driver’s license required.

This position is located at MPBN’s facility in Portland, Maine.
