The owners of the historic arsenal site say in an email to The Associated Press that they will respond to the state's complaint that they've allowed the property to deteriorate.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The company that owns the historic Kennebec Arsenal site in Augusta says it disagrees with allegations in a court complaint filed by the state, but hopes to work through their differences.

In the complaint filed in Kennebec County Superior Court, state officials say the compound in Augusta has been allowed to deteriorate while it awaits planned renovations. It seeks damages for the cost of repairs and return of the property to the state if those conditions aren't met.

The owners, Main Street I, LLC and Niemann Capital LLC, will respond to the complaint, developer Tom Niemann said in an email to The Associated Press. It says Main Street and Niemann Capital hope to "work through these issues'' with the state and to make progress at the site.
